My Trip Home

While I was reaching for the light switch, the soft wisps of a spider's web brushed against my hand. On the white-yellow wall, there was still a water mark three feet high. A horrible food had come to Hue before. The smell and taste of dirt was thick in the air. The ceiling was now dingy gray, and the floor was covered by a thin layer of dust. Hearing nothing but my own heart beating, I felt the loneliness and emptiness crash out even louder and harder. Then I heard the voice of my father again, "try as hard as you can to loose yourself from the bond of ignorance, never quit when following your dream." For a moment I felt love and peace embracing me, then with sadness, I realized, he was already gone.…
