Culture has a great impact on locals’ attitudes and the way they do business. To do a successful business or make a contract with a foreign country it is essential to understand their patterns of behavior, decision making process, communication and values. Even common gestures can mean different thing in two cultures. O. K. hand signal is a rude gesture in Brazil and to wish luck place your thumb between your index and middle fingers while making a fist. This is also known as the "fig" in other cultures.
I will analyze the culture of Brazil based on the cultural dimensions of Hofstede and Trompenaars. Hofstede analyzes cultures using five dimensions- power distance, uncertainty avoidance, masculinity, long time orientation and individuality. While Trompenaars have more complex dimensions: Universalism vs. particularism, individualism vs. communitarianism, neutral vs. emotional, specific vs. diffuse, achievement vs. ascription, sequential vs. synchronic, internal vs. external control over environment.…
