It is now almost dusk. The shoreline of Spain is slowly slipping away; soon it will fade into the horizon and disappear completely from view. It will not take us long to reach the end of our map, the edge of all charted waters. We will be the first to venture beyond that point. I have no idea what awaits us once we leave the edge of the map, but I am ready for whatever may come, be it new lands, new peoples, or creatures never before seen by men. It is an amazing feeling to know that I am going to be the first man known to have laid eyes on this part of creation, and regardless of how this expedition turns out, I know that I am making history.…
