Differences and Diversity
Diversity takes many forms. We mostly identify and notice differences that have connection with the visible stuff: different skin colour, different clothes, and different accents in language, different abilities or disabilities. Apart from the physical appearance people usually sort others depending on the religion or the sexual orientation they have, even the hand they write.
In fact, we already are sorted. We can identify ourselves not ethnically, racially or regionally, but also by our age, by the place in our families – first born children, and so on. The shortness and tallness, the betters and the bests, the actives or the passives, is the diversity that hopelessly sorts us. Day to day we sort the rest; the rest sorts us even if we don’t realize that.
The question is, if we accept a difference when somebody is different from us. How do we sort the rest?…
