Other problematic rule is that the film format must be Academy 35. Academy 35 is the best quality that we can have now, so it is close to reality. But what is the point of copying films from DV to Academy 35 if DV does not have the same quality? Any DV film no matter where and on what it has been copied has DV quality. In order to have 35mm quality one has to shoot on 35mm. In case of Dogme shooting on 35mm is not possible because of hand held camera, so why such rule?
Yet another questionable rule is distinction that genre movies are not acceptable. Genres help people to categorize things – make life easier. If this movement tries to be as close to reality as possible, it should allow genre, because genre makes life easier. Not allowing genre movies is another artificial obstacle.
