Education in Sparta was national: from the age of 12 boys were partite form the family and to age of 30 they lived in the barracks. The mean goal of education in Sparta was to make manly, disciplined and hardy soldiers. On the morrow of birth children were depended to cruel selection, physical weak children were determined to death. From the children was demanded unconditional obedience. They were also trained to make shift with homely fare, even winter to walk unshod and to sleep on the hard rushy rug. Hungry children as often as not gained the food by the way of thievery with admirable skill. But if they were cached, they were cruelly punished.
