With the extreme success of the ENIGMA project, Cretu states "I started to make money on music the day I sold my piano," referring to his days as a classical pianist. "With ENIGMA, I have created a complete piece of music that I wanted to let stand alone. There is a sense of mystery in the music that I wanted to leave untouched by the perceptions and preconceived ideas that come with the past history of a producer and song writer. Old rules and habits have to be rejected and dismissed so that something new can be created."
Cretu has a contract with Virgin to release four additional albums under the ENIGMA project. In summarizing the essence of ENIGMA, Cretu states "There are infinite numbers of possibilities. However, the art is to create a whole out of the countless details, fragments and ideas. ENIGMA is becoming a kind of United Colors of Music."
