Genetic engineering can do much harm to the environment. Some of the companies that boast genetic engineering can do wonders for the environment are the same ones that have invented such deadly pesticides such as DDT and Agent Orange. These pesticides were promised to help the environment. Instead, they turned into environmental disasters. Genetically engineered corn may be deadly to certain animals such as the Monarch butterfly. For example, half the Monarch caterpillars that were dusted with genetically modified corn pollen died within four days. The surviving Monarchs that ate genetically mutated corn pollen were much smaller and had smaller appetites than the control Monarchs.
