Between the years of 1845 and 1848, the United States gained more than 1.2 million square miles of land, an increase of more than sixty percent, mainly due to inspiration from manifest destiny. Manifest Destiny was the belief that many Americans used to justify their expansion west and the removal of every person in their way of doing this.
