Today, Aung San Suu Kyi is the most important figure in Burma. Aung San Suu Kyi was born in Yangoon, Burma in 1945, and is still living. She lived as a middle class citizen growing up, because her father, General Aung San, played a popular and important role in the Burmese government. She tried to change the military run government of Burma. She was educated at the University of Oxford, and gained an honorary doctor of law degree at the American University in Washington D.C. The education she gained at these prestigious schools did not influence her political action, because her father was the one who influenced her.
