In conclusion, as inhabitants of this planet, we have a responsibility to preserve earth's richness and vitality. Protecting America's finest remaining wildlife habitat requires us to "consecrate" our participation in the natural world. This means our actions must stem from an ethical attitude of courtesy, honor, and respect for Mother Earth, which is so evident in the tribal traditions of the native people. A strong commitment to preserve our environment will lead to the development of long term renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind power. Instead of looking for more oil hot spots, we would do well to raise automobile and truck fuel efficiency standards. Corporate greed must never be permitted to irreparably harm the habitat of tribal people and wildlife as well as the pristine features of the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge. It is senseless and immoral to the sacredness of this planet to give in to oil drilling rights for an unnecessary small amount of oil that offers no long-term solution to our energy needs.…
