One AA battery was put into the battery holder and the circuit tested to see if all the joints were working.
Once all of these steps were completed I plugged headphones into the jack and listened to the radio. I was able to tune the radio by moving the ferrite rod inside the wire coil.
Conclusion
The radio worked and so I have achieved my aim. Unfortunately I was only able to tune in to one radio station due to the poor reception I obtained. This could have been remedied with an additional aerial to boost the reception. Overall the project was very educational and I found it interesting how technology that was cutting edge just over 80 years ago could be emulated today within just a few minutes with the correct components.
