Biography of the author
Elizabeth Gilbert was born on July 18, 1969 in Connecticut, U.S.A. and she is an American journalist and author. She is best known for her memoir “ Eat, pray, love” which was published in more than 30 languages and has sold over 12 million copies. The book was also made into a film in 2010. The memoir appeared on the New York Times Best Seller List of nonfiction in the spring of 2006, and was still #2 on the list 88 weeks later, in October 2008.
But going back, as a child Gilbert’s entertainment was writing books and plays, because her family did not own a television or a record player. Gilbert attended New York University and after college she moved to Philadelphia and worked as a waitress to save up enough money to travel. And an interesting fact is that she financed her world travel of "spiritual and personal exploration” and making of the book with a $200,000 publisher's advance after pitching the concept in a book proposal. …
