In the Christian tradition war ethics were developed by St Augustine, and later by St Thomas Aquinas and others.
Julius Ceasar`s campaign against the Helvetii, the Cetlic inhabitants of modern Switzerland about 60% of the tribe was killed, and another 20% was taken into slavery.
Ancient Assyria began to use mass-deportation as a punishment for rebellions since the 13th century. By the 9th century the Assyrians made it a habit of regularly deporting thousands of restless subjects to other lands.
