Definition:
The grammar translation method is a foreign language teachinng method derived from the classical method of teaching Greek and Latin
How does it work?
The method requires students to translate whole texts word for word and memorize numerous grammatical rules and exceptions as well as enormous vocabulary lists.
Methods:
Classes are thaught in the mother tongue, with little active use of the target language
Much vocabulary is taught in the form of lists of isolated words
Long explanations of grammar rules are given
