Human memory:
much better than even the most advanced computer
very complex mechanism – it consists of multiple stages, each containing different types of information
ever-changing system
Sensory memory:
lasts for a very brief time
contains information, which represents original stimulus fairly accurately
function – transferring to the next form – short-term memory
Iconic (visual) memory:
contains a brief of a sight we have just seen
Echoic (auditory) memory
is necessary for comprehending many sounds
contains a fleeting echo of a sound we have just heard
Short-term memory
an immediate memory for stimuli that have just been perceived
rehearsal is important component of short-term memory function
can store limited amount of information – only about seven independent items.…
