Latvian Song and Dance Festival exist since 1973 and it’s one of the most popular Latvian festivals. Latvia is the only country which has this kind of festival. This festival takes place once in 4 years and it gathers together more Latvians than any other event.

One of the biggest Latvian traditions is Midsummer fiesta ‘Jāņi’. It’s a night from 24 to 25 June. In this night all the people around country come together and whole night are drinking beer, singing folk songs, eating Latvian national cheese and try to find ferns while being drunk. And the most successful celebrators fatally crash their cars.

Steamed cauliflower with grey beans is the most traditional Latvian food which is eaten mostly in Christmas and in summer with some good Latvian beer and caraway cheese. If time is good then many of Latvian families bake their own bread.
