Thailand

Name “Thai” means “free”.
Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia who has never been a European colony.
From the 13.century to the early 20.century, the country was called Siam.
In 1939 the name was changed to Thailand.
Thailand has a population of about 57 million. Nearly 10 percent of the population lives in Bangkok, the country’s capital and largest city.
The Kingdom of Thailand is a constitutional monarchy. King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the head of Thailand.
Religion. About 95% of the Thais are Therevada Buddhists, about 3% are Muslims and 1% is split between other religions.
Business etiquette
Punctuality is a sign of courtesy. Foreigners are expected to be on time.
Negotiating. Do not expect to discuss business over lunch.
