Communication apprehension (CA) is one of the most frequent and common challenges for many people. Communication apprehension by McCroskey is defined as “.. an individual's level of fear or anxiety associated with either real or anticipated communication with another person or persons” meaning that it is fear to speak in public1.
There are different origins of CA and there can be different levels of it. People having high level of CA would be the ones fearing public speaking the most, whereas people having low level of CA would be ones that do not fear public speaking as much as the first ones. CA can be seen as trait, meaning that it is viewed as personality characteristics. It governs CA in almost all kinds of situations, people having this type of CA would be characterized as closed and shy in communications. Some researchers indicate that CA as a trait is genetic and can be inborn from parents (DeFleur, Kearney and Plax, 1992)2. Therefore it might be the hardest to heal. …
