Paget`s Disease of Bone

Paget's disease of bone (osteitis deformans) is the chronic, abnormal formation of bone tissue that results in weakened, enlarged and deformed bones. It is named after Sir James Paget, the British surgeon who described several diseases including: Paget`s disease of bone; Paget`s disease of the breast; Paget – Schroetter disease; extramammary Paget`s disease (EMPD). The Paget`s disease of bone is most common of those conditions and first was described in 1877.
Paget`s disease usually affect people over 40, but rarely in younger and possibility to have this disorder increase with aging. It is estimated that 1-2% of white adults who are over 55 years of age have Paget’s disease. This figure rises to 5-8% for white people who are over 80 years of age. Men are about 50% more likely than women to develop it.
In Paget’s disease prevalence are difference between countries and regions, because this disease are most common among people of white British descent. The condition is most widespread in the United Kingdom, and is relatively widespread in countries that have experienced high levels migration from the United Kingdom, such as United States of America, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
