Conclusions
The European Parliament is the directly elected parliamentary body of the European Union and together with the Council of the European Union has been described as one of the most powerful legislatures in the world. The Parliament is responsible for discharging the implementation of previous budgets, on the basis of the annual report of the European Court of Auditors. While the Council has the last word on compulsory spending, the Parliament has the last word on non-compulsory spending.
To my mind, the European Parliament is the most important institution in the European Union. When nation works with Parliament it can raise the profile of issues, examine the Government’s activity and where required, call for change.
The other thing why to my mind European Parliament is important institution in European Union is that if a new nation wants to become a member state of European Union this nations accession must be approved by a European Parliament majority vote.
