Jane Austen, the author of the famous novel '' Pride and Prejudice'' (1813), is one of the distinguished and well-known writers of all ages. Jane Austen was born in 1775 at Stevenson, Hampshire, a small town in south-west England and spent there most of her life. She loved this beautiful county and found there the inspiration to write such a beautiful novel as ''Pride and Prejudice''. She died at Winchester in 1817, after about a year's illness. The true nature of her illness is still a mystery, but the British Medical Journal published an article by Zachary Cope that suggested that the cause of her death was Addison's Disease. Jane Austen is buried in Winchester Cathedral.
She was raised in the middle class society and her middle class existence greatly influenced her writing. Like other young women of her social class, Jane was educated mostly at home in the '' ladylike'' subjects such as needlework, painting, drawing, music and social behaviour.
Jane Austen lived and wrote her novels in a violent period of English history. Her life encompassed the whole Napoleonic Wars and the War of 1812, yet her novels do not reflect the events which were going on around her.
In my view, ''Pride and Prejudice'' is one of the best Jane Austen's novels. This novel demonstratively reflects her observations of the time, people, society, its style of life, conventions and prejudices, and this is why I have chosen to write exactly about this novel. In ''Pride and Prejudice'' we can see Austen's great power of subtle discrimination and perceptiveness. The novel contains very detailed descriptions of the time. Jane Austen writes in gentle satire and her style of writing is simple yet very witty, facetious and rich.…
