The Constitution of the United States is arguably the finest historical document and longest living Constitution in the history of the world. The freedoms and rights that are given to us by the Constitution make America one of the greatest countries in the world. However, this document was not constructed overnight. The United States system of Government has gone through great change from the Articles of Confederation to the United States Constitution.
In the years following the Revolutionary War, the United States came up with a government called the Articles of Confederation. These Articles had an abundance of errors and shortcomings. There were countless rebellions and grievances as a result of the articles, but no one seemed to know how to fix things. "The year 1789 was the low point of the Critical Period. It was the year of Shays' Rebellion, the year of John Jay's proposed treaty with Spain, and a year in which the depression in trade reached its lowest ebb" (129). …
