Thunder occurs by lightening suddenly releasing energy explosively heating the air. An ice storm occurs when the temperature of the earth's surface is below 0 degree C and raindrops do not freeze before hitting the ground. The resulting ice builds up on objects exposed to the freezing rain.
A snow storm is an accumulation of snow. When a snowstorm is accompanied by high winds and low temperatures it is referred to as a blizzard.
The tornado is the most violent of storms; concentration of its energy is a relatively small region and gives the tornado great destructive potential. A tropical storm is a massive disturbance that forms over tropical oceanic regions. A tropical storms becomes a hurricane once it reaches a speed of 74 mph. Hurricanes are known by different names depending on where they are located, they can be called a typhoon or a cyclone also.
