William Shakespeare was an English poet, playwright, and actor born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon. William’s father was a successful local businessman, and his mother Mary was the daughter of a landowner. Scholars have surmised that Shakespeare most likely attended the King's New School, in Stratford, which taught reading, writing and the classics. William, aged only 18, married an older woman named Anne Hathaway. They had three children, Susanna, Hamnet and Juliet.
