The replicants' quest for companionship, purpose and longevity asserts the importance of these natural, authentic human needs that have been lost in the materialism and hedonism of society. They develop natural human instinct despite there being no example of this in their amoral surrounds, demonstrating that they really are "more human than human". Despite the fact they were never created with qualities and emotions inherent to natural human beings, these innate feelings are too powerful to suppress as they are an integral part of out beings, illustrating the ability of natural rhythms to prevail.
Although both texts give frightening visions of the future, various different issues that were prevalent during their period have shaped them. However, there are underlying similarities between the two texts, in that both composers warn the contemporary responder against uncontrolled technological advancement by presenting dystopic visions of possible futures. Both texts are warning the audience about the consequences of continually trying to suppress or destroy nature. Life itself is seen as inextricably linked with nature, and so any attempts at the suppression of nature is ultimately a suppression of life.
