Designer Dean Hills, and Hair, wigs and make up artist Jana De Biasi work in collaboration to present a wonderful variety of outfit's complete with hair and make up, that are fundamental to the actor's transformation. While the costumes are from the 1830's, Dean Hills decided to 'steer away from the stereo-typical representations of "Russian" people' (Dean Hills - 2005 Education Program). Jana De Biasi's shows the quality of her make up work, with the charity commissioner's (Roger Newcombe); his nose is a pale red nose, that added to the effect of him being a dusty old man, even under the harsh lights.
Geoff Cobham creates a lighting scheme, that while it must have been hard to accomplish, seemed effortlessly, making it easier for the audience to feel, as if they were just looking in on someone else's life. The inn is darkly lit, to emphasize the dilapidated state that Khlestakov is forced to dwell in, but to add to the effect, there is two naked low watt bulbs, which gives the impression that the light globes are the only source of light.…
