This essay will discuss how the British consumer has diversified in his taste in media and news over the past 20 years and what has been gained and lost in the process. It will assess and analyze pros and cons of the globalization of the media.

The countries that first started to broadcast their news to other countries had a huge influence on the political, social and economic affairs in the rest of the world. Obviously The United States of America and The United Kingdom of Great Britain are leading 24-hour news broadcasters. “The media are structurally linked to the dominant groups in society by economic, political and cultural connections.” (McNair, 2006) Everything that happens in these countries are worth knowing, whether it is an event where 900 women take off their bras in public or a terrorism act on September 11, 2001. For example, if a child is missing in Spain, other countries don’t really care, because it is a sad but quite regular incident. If a British 3-year-old girl is kidnapped from the hotel room in Portugal, it opens an issue about the safety of travelling in Europe and other parts of the world. …
