The contrast between Elinor and Marianne in Jane Austen’s novel “Sense and Sensibility”

Marianne and Elinor Dashwood are the main protagonists in “Sense and Sensibility”. Elinor represents the “sense” of the title while Marianne embodies “sensibility”. The sisters are quite different and portray different extremes of a woman in the late 18th century. Elinor and Marianne both run in the same social circles though it does not mean that the sisters are similar in how they communicate with others. Not only do the sisters communicate differently, they process their emotions oppositely. Due to processing their emotions differently both Dashwood sisters also have contrasting love lives.
