Vietnam is now possessing 72 tea industrial processing companies mainly for export with total capacity of 1129 tons of fresh tea per day (accounting for 60% of total fresh tea output). Among these 72 companies, 28 establishments with total capacity of 571.5 tons of fresh tea are under management of General Tea Company; the rest of 44 companies with total capacity of 557.5 tons of fresh tea/day are under the control of localities. In addition, there are over 1200 small-scale processors and tens of thousands of manual household processors.
Previously, backward processing technologies imported from former Soviet Union had a negative impact on the product's quality. Recently, modern processing equipments able to produce items with high quality and productivity have been imported from India.
